The Austin Museum Of Art Essay Example For Students

The Austin Museum Of Art Essay The Austin Museumof ArtThe Austin Museum of Art was the firstof the three galleries attended. At the time, the museum had a touringRock and Roll exhibit, which had its focus on the influence of the Rock?and-Roll culture on art. The pieces were arranged in a chronologicalorder and started with the Pop Art of the early 1960s. Located inthe section were two silk screens, one of Mick Jaggard and the other ofPrince, done by Andy Warhol. There were a few other pieces in thistime period that helped to point out a major turning point in both artand photography. It was now okay to use other peoples photographsin an art piece. Also, it symbolized a beginning of the manipulationof the photograph. No longer were the artists bound to having theirwork on paper, there were new and limitless areas to explore now in photography. These were the main works that caught my attention in the museum, but therewere many other pieces. Other works went through the abstract andfull of color 1960s, until the newer more mechanical art of the 1980sand 90s. After attending the Austin Museum of Art,the students headed for a smaller, more informal gallery. The DumontGallery contained works from various photographers that were entered intoa contest earlier in the year. Now the pictures were traveling aroundthe state of Texas, and had even made a stop at the MSC in College Station. The pieces in the exhibit made visible the numerous ways in which art andphotography can be presented. There were huge photographs, Polaroids, pictures developed onto clothing, series photographs, bound pictures, anda large amount whose methods of production could not be identified. There was one group of photographs done by the same artist that truly caughtmy attention. The artist, while a young woman did not have a veryinteresting life, and often sought refuge in the Nancy Drew mystery novels. Now, she has often caught herself talking to people about her life andactually telling the events that happened in the books instead of her life. It was because of those events that she did a series of photographs wereshe dressed up like Nancy Drew and posed in her pictures that played outthe different stories from the books. She decided, why not be herif you think you are her. The last and most relaxed gallery was onethat displayed the works of artists from the Austin area. The gallerywas actually part of an artist colony called Laughing at the Sun. Inside the building, the pieces were mainly traditional art. Therewere a few sculpture pieces, but mainly, it was photographs and drawingsor paintings. The pieces were actually there to show the relationshipof art and human models. The subject was a tribute to the modelsbecause without them, the artists would have a harder time producing theirwork. In addition to looking at the pictures, I found myself moredrawn to a corner of the gallery that did not have anything to do withthe exhibit. The were beautiful non-ferrous sculptures of feathers, headdresses, spears, and other Native American art. These were alldone by a man named Daryl Colburn, who has been a recognized Native Americanartist. After a quick look in the gallery, the students got a quicktour of the colony and the projects that each artist was undertaking. The people in the colony teach classes to make money, and live and workon the property for free. The only stipulation is that they haveto help maintain the property, and be willing to teach the other artistsin the colony for free. .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .postImageUrl , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:hover , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:visited , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:active { border:0!important; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:active , .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7 .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc2c68fce76e16a5b948591868a93ddd7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Domestic Violence EssayAfter viewing the pieces in the threeexhibits, I felt more educated on the evolution of photography and theway a gallery can actually influence my views on a particular piece ofart. The first gallery, though it had very interesting pieces, feltstuffy and made you want to move quickly through and leave, while the lastdisplay at the artist colony was enjoyable. Laughing at the sun mademe want to stay and explore the pictures spending the time to concentrateon each one and see if I could pick out the artists techniques. If ever in the Austin area, I would definitely attend Laughing at the Sunsgallery.

Its Common Sense That Animals Do Suffer Essays - Animal Welfare

It's Common Sense That Animals Do Suffer Many people and animal right activists object to having animals used in experiments. The animals used in medical research are put through experiment to help find cures for the well being of mankind, but somewhere down the line, some of these animals are tormented and tortured. Most of the researchers or animal abusers are caught and brought to court because of the heinous acts committed against these creatures and the excuse most animal abusers use is that animals do not suffer because they cannot communicate or express feelings. The author of Animal Liberation, Peter Singer, argues that animals do suffer and most animals can communicate and express their feelings, such as pain. He states this clearly when he says, Most people agree unhesitatingly that animals like cats and dogs can and do suffer. Many animals, such as mammals and birds communicate pain through, whimpering, yelping, and whining. Also, if animals did not suffer, then why would there be a law that prohibits cruelty towards animals. This law fines and even incarcerates people who abuse animals. Moreover, this law infers that animals do suffer and also, that they do have rights against inflicted, and unnecessary pain. In addition, one reason why people experiment with animals and do not care if the are hurting them is because animals do not have a language and cannot voice their feelings -- so they say. Science research found that chimpanzees ( a species similar to humans) can communicate and have a developed language. But what about infants? Infants cannot talk. So, are the not able to suffer because they lack a language? Why are these medical experiments not performed on infants? If animals do not hurt because they cannot communicate, then why can we not say the same for human babies? All in all, medical researchers are using animals to come up with cure for the many diseases and viruses humans bear. Think about it? these experiments are not done on humans because human people would feel pain, suffer, and even due to the torturing tests, so animals are used instead because their bodies work similarly to the human body (after being said that nonhumans are do different from humans). Moreover, we can assume that for an experiment to be successful and the cure be considered safe for humans, the animal's body must function comparable to the human body. Animals have a heart, have a brain , have a nervous system, and have blood just like people, therefore, indeed, animals do feel pain and suffer. Bibliography N/A
